SWEET IGNITIONS - Ask 6

HOW DID YOUR NAME ORIGINATE?

Naming a band is always tough, it’s just a word or a couple of words but getting ones that sit and sound right together is tough! After trying numerous Band name apps we narrowed down words, Ignite, Ignition kept cropping up so the Sweet was added as we felt it kind of described what we are as a band. The songs are hard hitting musically but coated with “Sweet” melodies and harmonies

WHERE WAS YOUR FIRST GIG AND HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE THERE?

Our first gig was at the Dragonfli in Pontypool. We wanted a quietish one to start with so there were around 30-40 people there.

-

WHEN WAS YOUR LAST DAY OFF AND WHAT DID YOU DO WITH IT?

Days off from the band are rare as we’re always doing something if it’s rehearsing, demoing material, writing, filming videos but holiday season has just passed so it was nice to do some surfing down in Croyde.

-

WHAT IS SOMETHING - APART FROM YOUR PHONE OR WALLET - THAT HAS TO BE IN YOUR VICINITY AT ALL TIMES?

Smokes! Or a guitar plectrum.

WHICH SONG BY ANOTHER ARTIST DO YOU WISH YOU'D WRITTEN?

Tough call, so many to choose from! It could change from day to day but right now I can’t stop listening to “I Sat by the Ocean” by Queens of the Stone Age. Some great guitar sounds, groove, words, chord progressions and melodies. Pretty much everything I look for in a good song. Plus they’re just an incredible band, could have picked pretty much anything from them!

WHAT'S BEEN THE MOST SURREAL FAN MOMENT?

I guess we’re not quite at that stage yet but we played the Great Escape in Brighton this year and one of my best mates surprised me by turning up without saying. The fact that he lives over 100 miles away and appeared 2 minutes before we went on was surreal but really cool. At the moment for us it’s just nice to see the same faces turning up at gigs, it means we’re doing something right!
