IDLE CROOKS & ENGLISHMEN - Ask 6

HOW DID YOUR NAME ORIGINATE?

When we first started everything happened a bit quicker than we expected and we sort of just ‘needed a name’, and one thing led to another and we had Idle Crooks & Englishmen, we liked the contrast with the words Idle and Crooks, but there really is no meaning behind it. I think Tom liked the film mad dogs and Englishmen, so that’s probably where the other half came from!

WHERE WAS YOUR FIRST GIG AND HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE THERE?

Our first gig as a band was at latest music bar in Brighton which our friend was promoting and managed to get us a quick slot first on the bill, we were supporting a touring band called true heights and there must have been around 50 people in the room which was quite cool for us at the time.

-

WHEN WAS YOUR LAST DAY OFF AND WHAT DID YOU DO WITH IT?

Because most of us are still working, we don’t really get time for a day off. But you’ll probably find us writing or in the studio, we’re always pushing to try and find something new or better we can improve on. We are also all Brighton FC fans, so we try and get to as many games as we can!

-

WHAT IS SOMETHING - APART FROM YOUR PHONE OR WALLET - THAT HAS TO BE IN YOUR VICINITY AT ALL TIMES AND WHY?

House keys! Or cigarettes.

-

WHICH SONG BY ANOTHER ARTIST DO YOU WISH YOU'D WRITTEN?

The less I know the better – Tame Impala, their song writing is simply incredible, they’re one of our favourite bands.

-

WHAT'S BEEN THE MOST SURREAL FAN MOMENT?

We are quite down to earth with all our fans, we get to know them personally as friends. The best thing is just seeing packed out rooms! We ended up giving someone a lift home in our tour van once because he was skint.
