DREW DIXON - Ask 6

HOW DID YOUR NAME ORIGINATE?

June 8, 1987, I was given this name. Mostly family names. Pretty sure my Dad didn't lose a bet and have to name his first-born son after a gambling rival or anything. I'd go as high as 93%.

WHERE WAS YOUR FIRST GIG AND HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE THERE?

In elementary school we used to set up in our friend's living rooms or garages. The audience was mainly just a few of our friends or maybe whatever parents lived in that house. None of us knew how to play the instruments, we were just trying to look like whatever music video we had just watched on MTV. I think my first public “gig” was in my Church's gymnasium when I was 14 or 15, opening for the Youth Director's band. I played an entire set of original songs, so none of the maybe 15 people there knew any of it. I tried to play one cover song, forgot the lyrics to the first verse, stopped the song, and played another original. Strong start to a career.

WHEN WAS YOUR LAST DAY OFF AND WHAT DID YOU DO WITH IT?

Off days are few and far between. I honestly couldn't tell you my last one, but they usually involve lots of laundry, delivery food, and movie marathons.

-

WHAT IS SOMETHING - APART FROM YOUR PHONE OR WALLET - THAT HAS TO BE IN YOUR VICINITY AT ALL TIMES?

A book. I enjoy reading a lot, so I usually have whatever I'm reading at the time with me. Right now I'm re-reading Slash's autobiography, it's wild.

WHICH SONG BY ANOTHER ARTIST DO YOU WISH YOU'D WRITTEN?

Angel from Montgomery by John Prine. It's one of my favorite songs of all time. The character/story is so beautifully simple and I get goosebumps every time I hear the chorus.

WHAT'S BEEN THE MOST SURREAL FAN MOMENT?

I met a lady in Washington, DC, that had my name tattooed on her lower back. That wins, for sure.
