Badflower - Interview from Download 2019

Badflower, new single ‘Promise Me’ taken from their debut album OK, I’M SICK , which was released in February 2019 via Big Machine/John Varvatos Records. Badflower have unveiled three offering from the album prior to Promise Me.  Recent single “Heroin” was preceded by the chart topping hit “Ghost" as well as “x ANA x”. Produced with Noah Shain (Atreyu, Dead Sara), ‘OK, I’M SICK’ introduces a band bristling with ideas and submerged in the most modern of sounds. Tackling issues inspired in part by lead singer Josh Katz anxiety and panic disorder - problems he channels and attempts to deal with in his often deeply personal music- the album also navigates subjects like abuse (‘Daddy’), depression (’24’), social media stalking (‘Girlfriend’) and Donald Trump (‘Die!’). Rarely before have a band appeared seemingly from nowhere with a body of work that so perfectly encapsulates many of the issues and topics of their time.

Since forming in 2013, frontman Josh Katz, guitarist Joey Morrow, drummer Anthony Sonetti, and bassist Alex Espiritu have toured relentlessly across the US and beyond, building up a reputation as a formidable live force as well as an ever-growing mass of loyal followers and praise from the likes of Billboard, Forbes, and Consequence Of Sound. The brooding “Heroin” became the most added song at US rock radio on it’s release in December and also landed the band on the cover of Spotify’s “Rock This” playlist with the top spot placement. Badflower’s recent single “Ghost” previously claimed the No. 1 spot on the Active Rock Radio Mediabase Chart, landed at No. 7 on Billboard’s 2018 Year-End Mainstream Rock Songs Chart, and is still currently inside the Top 30 at Alt Radio. With bitingly exposed lyrics and surging delivery, “Ghost” has captivated audiences at live shows and with personal responses online as the topic of suicide universally unites so many. With a dynamic live energy that has been shown on the stages of The Late Late Show with James Corden, “Ghost” has become a bonafide crossover hit.
